A whole new web service ‘Oinker’ coming soon!

Hi there,

It’s been another break in developing Piggydb for almost a year. It was probably the longest but I believe the most important pause ever in this project.

I’ve been working on a new web service that shares many concepts with Piggydb, and finally, it’s about to enter the phase of inviting beta testers.

I’m going to start with invitations for Piggydb Supporters to join the first group of beta testers.

Stay tuned!

Awesome! Can’t wait to find out more 🙂

Do you have any kind of timeline?

    Thanks! Jordan

Wonderful news! I can’t wait to try out your new web app! Will it allow importing local piggydb database to the web service?

    • Hi,

      > Will it allow importing local piggydb database to the web service?

I expected that many of Piggydb users would be interested in that.

As you will see when you start using it, Oinker is a whole new application. So, even though it shares many concepts with Piggydb, it would be not easy to exchange data between these two systems.

That said, I’ve been thinking about how the two apps should collaborate in a harmonious way. So I hope you’ll keep your eyes on the project to see how it develops from here.

Does this mean that you’ll be end-of-lifing piggydb sometime in the near future?

Also, I am currently running 6.16 on a Linux server, and yesterday after patching, certain fragments are broken (all child fragments) with the message “the application encountered an unexpected error.”

This is actually breaking the entire application if a broken fragment is on the home page, unless I click on an unbroken fragment. Then everything is fine until a broken one shows up in the results while scrolling, then you can’t go any further after that.

I will troubleshoot this more when I get home and update you. I’ll probably revert the updated packages one at a time until the problem is fixed.

Also, when can we expect more info on the new application?

    • Hi Shrader,

      > Does this mean that you’ll be end-of-lifing piggydb sometime in the near future?

No. I’ll continue the development of Piggydb, and hopefully, release v7.x in the next year.

OK. I’ll wait for the update.

      > Also, when can we expect more info on the new application?

Very soon. The application itself has already been ready, so I hope I will send the first invitations until the Christmas 😉
